Kate About us

Kate Scott – A keen and experienced mountaineer, trail runner, cyclist, skier and general outdoor enthusiast, Kate moved to the Alps when the pull of the mountains overcame her desire to pursue a career in the city. Before setting up Alpine Footprints she ran her own book keeping business in the Chamonix valley and also worked with a local french ‘Notaire’ (aka solicitor) helping people to buy and sell properties in France.

Having lived in France for over 10 years, Kate speaks fluent French. When not trekking around the hills, Kate works with a property finding agent, Alpine Angels helping non-french speakers find their dream property in the Alps.

Recently married, Kate lives just outside the village of St Gervais with her husband Bruce Goodlad, a high mountain guide, and their white cat Desi!Kate is an experienced endurance athlete and has, amongst other events, run the CCC (Half Tour du Mont Blanc) twice.

What is an IML?

An International Mountain Leader (IML) is someone who has been trained and assessed in the competence, knowledge, skills and abilities needed for leading groups in mountainous terrain where the use of specialist equipment such as ropes, axes and crampons are not required. This rigorous training and assessment is set down by the international umbrella organisation UIMLA (Union of International Mountain Leader Associations) and all working IMLs must be a member of the appropriate national organisation of a UIMLA member country.

Why an IML?

To lead commercial trekking groups in France it is a legal requirement to hold the IML qualification (Accompagnateur de Moyenne Montagne, in French).
